How Dojah Helped Flex Onboard 20,000+ Users with Its Identity Suite

dojah-flex case study

Flex is a peer-to-peer payments platform that enables users to send and receive money instantly using a PayTag instead of traditional account numbers. Built to simplify everyday transactions, Flex set out to give Nigerians a faster and more convenient way to move money.

As the team prepared to launch, they needed an identity verification partner to help onboard users securely from day one. This was important to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to verify that every user signing up was legitimate, reducing the risk of fraudulent signups that could affect the platform's growth. Flex wanted a partner that would be easy to integrate and support both compliance and user conversion as the platform scaled.

This case study explores how Dojah filled that gap and helped Flex effectively verify users, stay compliant, and successfully onboard over 20,000 users.

The Challenge: Verifying Users Accurately Without Slowing Down Growth

As a peer-to-peer payments platform, Flex needed every user on the platform to be who they said they were. With money moving directly between individuals, a single fraudulent signup or unverified account could put real users at risk and undermine the trust the platform depended on.

At the same time, Flex also had to meet Nigeria's regulatory requirements around identity verification, making accurate onboarding a compliance necessity, not just a safety measure.

Because Flex was building its verification process from scratch, and it was a critical step in user conversion, the team needed an identity partner that could get onboarding right from day one, without adding friction to a product built on speed.

"We needed a verification partner that could keep us compliant and help us onboard genuine users from the very start"

Arinze Ihemedu, CTO, Flex

That search for a dependable identity partner led Flex to Dojah.

The Solution: Dojah's Identity Suite for Fast and Reliable Onboarding

Flex chose Dojah for its identity verification needs after finding the EasyOnboard widget easy to integrate, with documentation clear enough to get the team up and running quickly.

"Integration with the EasyOnboard widget was easy, and the documentation was clear."

With Dojah's Identity Suite in place, Flex built a verification process around BVN and NIN checks to verify each user's identity, alongside image checks to confirm the person signing up matched the government ID being submitted. To secure the authentication process, the team added OTP verification across email, WhatsApp, and SMS, giving users multiple reliable ways to confirm their identity during onboarding.

Among these, email OTP stood out for its consistent uptime, giving Flex a dependable channel it could count on as more users signed up.

Together, these services enabled Flex to accurately verify users from day one, maintaining the seamless experience the platform was built to deliver.

The Results: 20,000+ Users Onboarded and 99% Verification Uptime

Since integrating Dojah's Identity Suite in 2024, Flex has onboarded over 20,000 users, verifying each one accurately while keeping the sign-up experience fast and friction-free.

Dojah’s BVN Advance played a key role in this, helping Flex confirm user identities quickly and supporting the onboarding process as more users joined the platform. Alongside this, Dojah's KYC service maintained a 99% uptime, giving Flex a dependable foundation to expand its user base while keeping growth on track.

"BVN Advance has been really good for onboarding, and we've maintained about 99% uptime with Dojah."

Arinze Ihemedu, CTO, Flex

With reliable verification running behind the scenes, Flex could focus on moving money instantly for users, without compromising on compliance or accuracy.

Flex's Verdict: Why Dojah Stands Out

For Flex, Dojah has been more than a vendor brought in to check a compliance box. It has been part of the infrastructure behind every user who's joined the platform since day one, confirming identities while Flex has focused on building a faster way to pay.

Reflecting on the partnership, Arinze Ihemedu, CTO at Flex, rated Dojah's overall service a 7.5 out of 10.

"For the overall services, I'd rate Dojah a 7.5/10. We’ve had a very reliable uptime since using Dojah"
— Arinze Ihemedu, CTO, Flex

When asked to describe Dojah in one word, his answer was simple:

"Efficient. "

Scaling Beyond Onboarding: What's Next for Flex and Dojah

With over 20,000 users onboarded, Flex is now looking past the sign-up stage. As transaction volumes grow, the team is looking to adopt Dojah's fraud and transaction monitoring tool, Easy Detect, to monitor activity after users join the platform, not just at the point of entry.

This next step reflects where Flex is headed, from verifying users at sign-up to protecting every transaction that follows, with Dojah supporting that growth at every stage.

Just like Flex, your fintech or digital platform can onboard users quickly, stay compliant, and scale using Dojah's identity and trust infrastructure.
